1950's Faux Sarong Style Dress with Pleated Bodice - Attributed to Dorothy O'Hara

No labels, but dead ringer for Dorothy O'Hara. The telltale sign on this dress besides the pleating and side draping, is the flat smooth asymmetrical panel that goes from left hip to right bust. This is a Dorothy O'Hara detail. The dress is done in ink black rayon silk crepe, a beautiful and fluid fabric. The dress is fitted through the bodice, V neckline and bracelet length sleeves. Decorative pleating across each bust, starting at edges of center asymmetrical panel. At left hip of skirt there is gathering and pleating that cascades down to hem, creating a sarong skirt look. Also an O'Hara detail. The dress is partially lined in black rayon silk crepe and fastens with back metal zipper and hook and eye at top of placket. Some of the O'Hara dresses like this one had bust padding sewn into the lining. This could have been a custom-fit thing, but the padding in this dress has been cut out, so there are circular cut-outs of lining at the bust. Also, these dresses from the early 50's always had shoulder pads and this one does not, indicating they have been removed. Excellent condition otherwise, dress looks hardly worn. Size small-medium. 1950's Tailored Silk Shantung Dress with Polka Dot Print

No labels found, professionally made with couture details. This is a gorgeous dress, beautiful fabric, great print, and beautifully constructed. The fabric is a silk shantung in black with cream dots. The dress is shirtwaist style, with button front placket that starts several inches below the waist. The dress is styled with a rounded collar, cap sleeves with gussets, fitted waist, and full skirt. The skirt has inset pockets with wide decorative flaps. The skirt is lightly shirred around the waist. At the neckline there is a black faille ascot attached. I am showing it ascot style, but you could tie it as a jabot bow as well. The dress has lovely tailoring details and the fabric is extremely fine quality. It is in good to very good condition. Two pin head sized holes, one front side above waist, the other back side above waist. On back bodice, four of the cream dots are stained to a light faint brownish color. At back above waist there is a 4" by 1" band of darkened fabric, where you can tell the black of the belt rubbed off on the material, and also has worn it down a bit. Size small-medium. 1960's Peggy Hunt Lace Cocktail Dress with Sequins and Silk Chiffon Streamers

"Peggy Hunt" label. A gorgeous black lace hourglass cocktail dress, styled with illusion bodice. The lace flowers are placed decoratively over the black netting of the neckline, and the flowers on the bodice are sprinkled with black sequins, really pretty. The neckline front to back has a small band of nude colored crepe fabric trim, and the back neckline plunges. The back of the dress is decorated with black silk chiffon streamers at either side. The dress is fully lined in black rayon crepe, and fastens with back nylon zipper (probably a replacement) and a hook and eye at waist, at top of placket, and to fasten chiffon above placket. Aside from the shoulder seam being re-sewn by hand or reinforced, the dress is in excellent condition and looks hardly worn. Size small. 1950's Silk Shantung Taffeta Dress with Overlapping Skirt and Accordion Pleating

Label is missing. Extremely well made. A crisp smoky gray shantung taffeta. Because this is a raw silk, the fabric is naturally slubbed, has some imperfections, and some of the fibers are white or off-white, which adds to the color and texture. The dress is beautifully styled with Peter Pan collar, cap sleeves and nipped waist. A surplice bodice with decorative self covered buttons that extend all the way down the top layer of skirt, and around to side. The bottom layer of skirt is accordion pleated and full. The top layer is mostly over the right side of the skirt, rounded at edges, and decorated with self buttons, all original to the dress. The dress fastens with a side metal zipper and is unlined. In very good condition, there is a tiny 1/4" split in the fabric at center back bodice, this should be professionally reinforced prior to wearing. There is also a quarter sized very faint ring at one underarm, not noticeable, the two back bodice darts show a little stress. Super clean. Size small. 1950's Larry Aldrich Beaded Blouse and Skirt Set

"Larry Aldrich New York" label. Sky blue linen skirt and zip-back blouse. Made for afternoon/evening wear, with outrageously pretty design on blouse in sequins, faceted crystals, and glass beads in white, clear and silver. The top is fitted and has a pretty floral sequin design along the hem. Top is lined in matching sky blue silk crepe de Chine, and fastens with back metal zipper with hook and eye at top of placket. Skirt is unlined, and fastens with back nylon zipper (replacement) and hooks and eyes at waist. The set is in super clean excellent condition, missing single white bead at bottom of placket. Size small, should fit loosely. Measures 36" bust, 27" waist, 34" hem, 15 1/2" shoulder to waist, 20" shoulder to hem. Skirt measures 26 1/2" waist, 37" hips, and 25" in length. 1960's Abe Schrader Curvy Wool Knit Dress with Pin-tucks

"Abe Schrader" label. Ink black wool knit dress that has the outstanding feature of daring and artistic pin-tucked seaming at sides of bodice and hips. Dress has a very modern feel to it, and the clean lines make it easy to dress up or down. A great day-to-night dress for the cooler climates. The dress is un-lined, and fastens with back metal zipper placket. In excellent condition, has a couple of tiny snags on the front skirt. Size small. Dress measurements taken laying flat (not stretched): 34" bust, 24" waist, 34" hips, 15 3/4" shoulder to waist seam, 22" waist seam to hem.
