1950's Tailored Faille Princess Coat Style Dress

"Eve Sorey, Carmel by the Sea" and "Mayfair of Califorina" labels. A nicely tailored button-front dress (or could be worn as a coat) in a wool blend medium weight faille fabric in blue and off white. The dress is princess style, with a nipped waist and full skirt with shirring around the waist. Lightly padded at the shoulders, glove length sleeves. Dress has inset pockets along side seams at hip level, and is beautifully lined in navy taffeta. Dress fastens front with decorative navy blue novelty buttons with rhinestone centers. The sleeves are cuffed and the cuffs fasten with a single snap each. The dress is in excellent condition, except for a V shaped shadow-y color run type spot at bottom of button placket. Size medium. 1950's Frank Starr Silk Print Evening Gown with Appliqués'

"Frank Starr Original" label. Late 40's to early 50's. A rare full length evening gown from this much sought-after 50's designer. A big, bold graphic print in impressionistic floral against a white background. The colors are bronze, applied metallic gold paint, brilliant royal blue, and dusty rose. The gown has a scoop neckline trimmed in hand stitched blue floral appliqués', cap sleeves with fitted waist and  very full floor length skirt. The bodice is illusion style, with an attached off-white rayon taffeta under slip with straps. The fabric is China silk, and is slightly see-through, but is lined. The gown comes with it's original belt, and fastens with side metal zipper. In very good condition, lining has a few tiny spots, the lower side of skirt has a cluster of light brown spots, blends in with print fairly well. The dress has been stored very nicely and has little wear. Size small/tall. Measures 15-15 1/2" shoulder to shoulder edge, 36" bust, 26" waist, free hips, 16" shoulder to waist, 43 1/2" waist to hem. 1950's Sally Milgrim Mermaid Hem Cocktail Dress with Pleated Bodice

"Milgrim" label. Sally Milgrim was one of the top designers of luxurious custom clothing during the 40's to early 60's. This late 50's to early 60's cocktail dress is done in ink black rayon crepe, with rounded neckline with pleating across the bust. The dress is fitted, and has an elaborate mermaid hem. The dress is lined in black silk and a stiff black fabric for the mermaid hem, and fastens with side metal zipper placket. In very good condition, the front and back bodice darts have been taken in and let back out. Size small-medium. 1950's Matte Satin and French Lace Evening Dress - Decorative Exposed Lace Back Detail

Attributed to Seymour Jacobson. I recognize his style and choice of finest fabrics in this design, he always used imported French silk lace. Once you see the real 50's imported French lace, you never mistake another kind for it again. An extremely fine design of black matte taffeta with satin finish. The  bodice is form-fitting and the skirt is full. The bodice and skirt are lined in a shell pink taffeta that lines the exquisite black French lace that you see on the bodice and also on the back of the skirt. Under the bust is a faux belt of satin, with a decorative single button. The back of the skirt exposes yards French lace lined in same pink taffeta. The skirt has a stiff facing to keep it's shape. The dress fastens with side metal zipper. In very good condition, looks hardly worn. Along the side edge of the hem, right on the edge, there is about 3-4" of frayed fabric, another 1" frayed edge at one shoulder. There is one very small hole in lace on back of bodice, and one mend.  The buttons on the back of the skirt are not original to the dress. There is a pin head sized hole at the corner of one of the underarm gussets. Size small-medium. 1950's Silk Taffeta Cocktail Dress with Pleating and Swag

"The Rosalee, For the Woman Who Cares, Avenue J, Brooklyn" label (also has the name "Fox" written on label). A spectacular matte black silk taffeta dress. Fitted and curvy, with lots of decorative pleating across front bodice and skirt, with faux sarong side swag that is gathered up into a side drape. A sculptural beauty! Dress is lined in silk, bodice is reinforced with stays, and skirt has back kick pleat. Dress fastens with back metal zipper. In good-very good condition, there are flaws: a 3" rip in lining of skirt, and there is a group of 5 small mends on the right front side of skirt, the largest is 1" and the smallest is 1/8". With the right pleating most could be concealed. Dress shows moderate wear and has not been dry cleaned. Size medium. Measures 38" bust, 30" waist, 38" hips, 16" shoulder to waist, 28" waist to hem.
